YES 4 St Joe Kids!

Tomorrow, April 3rd, St Joseph faces an important decision about our children.and New G is supporting the kids! The voters of St. Joseph School District will decide to renew bonds, which will be a no tax rate increase, to fund the construction of 2 new schools and install air conditioning in all the elementary schools. We urge you to join us and:

Vote YES 4 St Joe Kids!

Its been 40 years since we’ve built a new school in St. Joseph and we have 5 elementary school buildings that have either reached or are close to their 100th birthday. Our community desperately needs to invest in better schools for our children and our future.

There are several New G alumni and current members who have been involved in both the campaign as well as developing the facilities master plan that catalyzed this ballot initiative. Two of our current members, Josh Smith (MWSU student) & Bryson Wooden (Central Sr), and their good friend, Derek Rice (Central Sr) produced the informational video above and a couple of commercials, airing on KQ2 & cable, to help promote PACT and the Vote YES 4 St Joe Kids campaign. The video features, among others, New G Alumni and Grammy Award Winner, Daniel Belcher.  Before you ask – YES, they strapped a camera to the bottom of an airplane for the aerial shots and the runway is Rosecrans!!!

In an unprecedented show of support 30 churches & pastors have stepped up to endorse this measure – including the New Generation Singers. Additionally, this measure is supported by the SJSD School Board, the entire St. Joseph City Council & Mayor, the Buchanan County Commissioners and all 3 MO State Representatives that represent the entire SJSD in Jefferson City. We’re sharing this information with you because while many of you don’t live in St Joe, we know almost all of you have family, friends and strong ties here.

You can learn more about the initiative on the St. Joe Kids website (www.StJoeKids.com), Facebook Page (www.Facebook.com/StJoeKids) and Twitter feed (@StJoeKids). You can learn about the development of the long range plan and master facilities plan on the PACT for SJSD webnsite (www.PACTforSJSD.com), Facebook (www.Facebook.com/PACTforSJSD) and Twitter (@PACTforSJSD). PACT for SJSD (Planning A Course Together for the St. Joseph School District) was a massive 2 yr community engagement process, involving 100′s of volunteers that enabled the community to develop a long range plan for the SJSD.

If you live in the St. Joseph School District, we hope you vote on April 3rd and support this initiative. If you don’t live here, we hope you will share this information with your family and friends who do.

New G Tour ’11 – Homecoming Tonight! #NGTour11

The New G Tour Buses Arrive tonight at 5 PM and Homecoming starts at 7 PM both at Wyatt Park Baptist Church.  Having been in the group, we all know how special tonight will be for the singers and their family and friends.  Hope you have enjoyed following them on tour these past couple of weeks.  Below is a recap video from the 2010 tour.  I am sure they have had similar experiences this year!

A volunteer and good friend of New G, Scott Johnson, who among many other things, maintains the New G website (www.NewGSingers.com) posted this note on the New G website a little while ago.

AN UPDATE (as of Monday morning, July 25, 2011): I know it’s been quiet on this page, but it’s because *I* spent the weekend in New York with New G! It was a last minute decision to go, but I had a credit with Delta Airlines and this seemed like the time to use it. I plan to write a detailed account of the weekend – everything from traffic jams to Times Square to celebrity sightings – but for now, here are some basic highlights…

  • New York and the surrounding area is crazily huge!
  • The New G kids gave what I’m told was their best performance Friday night – they were hot. And they sang well too! Yes, in Lewisburg, PA, there was no air-conditioning in the sanctuary, unless you count the fire department mega-fan which was too loud to use during the service. I would think it was at least 85 in the church, but the kids didn’t complain – instead, they sang their hearts out, again.
  • I heard nothing but compliments from the sponsors about how well the kids were doing on the road – always on-time, friendly and supportive.
  • The Broadway show (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) was GREAT! Of course I was paying close attention to the technology, but that never over-shadowed the talent of the actors and dancers. How they put that much energy into eight performances a week is astounding. (But come to think of it, so do the New G kids!)
  • You will eventually hear stories about how long it took to get back to the hotel after the show; we got out of the theater at 11:00 p.m., most of us got to bed at 3:00 a.m. I think it was about a 10 mile distance! That’s what happens when the main bridge you need is closed for construction (which accounts for the first 2 1/2 hours of traffic), then you have to find a route that an 11′ 10″ tall bus can navigate without taking the top off.
  • Then the performance at Beulah Church of the Nazarene Sunday morning was another memorable event – and I do mean event, bordering on marathon! (I’ll never again complain about a seven minute sermon by my hometown pastor back in Kansas)!

Ok, this is already longer than I intended. I have plenty of pictures and video, but it’s going to take me awhile to catch up, so please stay tuned! Scott
